Growing up in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont, I remember canoeing with my dad and brother. I didn't care for it much back then, mainly because my dad often barked," your doing it wrong" or "back up, I got a snag" . Now with kayaks being the craft of choice, you can be together and not be in the same boat. Don't like my paddling, go around.
In '93 my wife and I purchased the old schoolhouse I was raised in as a second home. In '97 the field along the Clyde River was up for sale. To convince my wife to buy it, I told her it is a great place to rent canoes and kayaks when we get old. Old showed up in 2008 and the beginning of "Clyde River Recreation"
We started out with an old cargo trailer as our office with 4 kayaks, 1 tandem kayak, and 2 canoes. Each year we added equipment, looked at how we function with all aspects of our service. Today we have over 150 canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and matching accessories housed in a large barn with attached office . It's not unusual to have over 100 people on the water when the weather is nice. We love what we do and it shows.
